The outbreak of volcanic eruption in Europe has lead to severe flight disruptions which is apparently the worst air travel shutdown Europe has seen since the second world war. Tej Kohli posts the detailed report:

It was a short lived joy for Europe Aviation authorities when they began considering to reopen some airspace on Tuesday and reports of a new ash cloud spreading towards the UK came in.

Resuming the flights was cautious and unpredictable, underscoring the piecemeal nature of the European response to the unmatched interruption that has attracted criticism from the aviation industry, causing confusion among stranded travelers and shutting down many of the Europe’s busiest air routes.

The disruption has now continued twice as long as the shutting up of American air space after the 9/11 attacks. UK seemed to be worst affected by the never ending menace of volcanic ash, which can wear away jet engines.

Although the national weather service of UK announced that the eruptions are weaker and smaller that the older ones, at times the ash cloud can reach over 10000 feet, which is a very critical level for the airplanes, as climatic conditions drift these volcanic clouds towards the Britain.

According to the British National Air Traffic Control Services, “the volcano eruption in Iceland has strengthened and a new ash cloud is spreading south and east towards the UK” inducing them to back off from their earlier announcement that flights may be resumed as far as the south as main London airports.

However, for the other airspaces, the agency is consistent with their earlier announcement about reopening it in order to prevent further losses in the dooming European Airline industry. For parts is the North of England and Scotland, they are lined up to be lifted starting 7am on April 20.
Due to the cancellation of flights European air companies are suffering severe economic losses. According to expert estimates, air companies have suffered losses of up to $150 million euros ($200 million) a day because of flight cancellations and is expected to reach over $300 million.

Airline passengers are advised to contact their respective airline companies before arriving at the airport, just to make sure that they gave resumed operations.
