More Firms to Axe Employees – Tej Kohli

There were more troubles for workers today with researches showing a rise in companies expecting to do lay-offs.

About one-third of the 600 employers surveyed plan to cut jobs in the coming three months. This is the worst figure for a year.

The survey conducted by KPMG and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development revealed that more public sector companies are planning job cuts than private ones.

Alan Downey, the head of public sector at KPMG, said “We will see a substantial reduction in the public sector headcount as these cuts begin to bite.

“That’s the painful but inevitable consequence of the coalition government’s determination to tackle the massive structural deficit.
